This is who we are.
I am sitting here at work thinking about the way people are. I am becoming increasingly discontent with it. It’s as if we can never do anything for simple reasons. We must always be acknowledged for anything we do (good or bad). We spend countless hours gaining attention through web sites such as twitter, tumblr and facebook. I am an avid user of all these sites and don’t dislike them in any way. I am just questioning our motives. It’s as if we can’t even sit down and write something true to our hearts anymore with out hoping it will draw the attention of some on looker. We can’t write a song that means something to us if we are afraid that it might not be the next hit single. We are all at the mercy of each other, when we should only be at the mercy of ourselves. I am a hypocrite just by writing this, hoping someone will acknowledge me for striving to be true to myself, for striving to do something based purely on passion. Maybe writing something I actually believe is out of the question. Maybe the human sub-conscience is always at a quest for peer approval and even while we try to be “pure” and “honest” we are only striving for social recognition of how “different” and “artistic” we are.
Maybe this is just who we are.
